Last year the United States Department of Justice recovered
over $3 billion under the False Claims Act and returned it to
the federal government's coffers. Over 60% of the recovery was
from the healthcare sector. With different government agencies
focusing on cybersecurity, the importance of appreciating the
intersection between whistleblower cases and HIPAA/the HITECH
Act, is more important than ever. Participants should have these
take-aways after the presentation: 1) The process of bringing a
False Claims Act case, how to mitigate risk through compliance
and some considerations from the defense-side; 2) The ways
HIPAA and the HITECH Act emerge in False Claims Act litigation;
